York Durham Sanitary Line Community Impact

York Durham Sanitary Line and Community Impact

Brenner spoke out on your behalf at June 26th and November 22 2007 Community Information Meetings on the Proposed South East Collector Trunk Sewer

York Region and Durham have been working on their proposed route alignment for the this $500,000,000 capital project which is anticipated to be started between 2011-2014 time frame.
While the project will enable the Region of York to increase its sewage capacity for future development  this project is not required to serve the residents of Durham nor Pickering who will be inconvenienced by its construction.

The proposed construction will involve a tunneling through local green space running west to east along the wild life corridor north of rail line and cutting south towards Valley Farm Road
In response to many inquiries from local residents as a past Regional Councillor acting as an advocate, Brenner attend two very important meetings held for the community.

June 26 and November 22 ,

With no attendance by any Regional Councillors from Pickering Brenner  put on the table a number of community issues and recommendations for actions.
Issues such as noise from construction, odors that will impact the abutting communities, damage to our environment, and no net benefit to Pickering residents was raised by Brenner on behalf of the community.

Officials agreed to take community concerns back to the study team and will incorporate suggestions on how to address these concerns in their final report.
One suggestion  put forward was to enhance this corridor system which acts as a trail into a new east west trail that would connect the Rouge to the Duffins. The trail could provide interpreter learning stations that would promote a greater appreciation for both wildlife and habitat.
