A survey conducted by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business reveals small businesses in Pickering feel their local government's performance is barely adequate.
Results indicated small business owners feel Pickering council has room for growth when serving their needs.
Eighty-four Pickering businesses took part in the survey between July 2009 and June 2010. When asked 'How do you rate the local government where your business is situated on the following issues?' they answered in the following manner:
Reasonable property tax levels -- 10 per cent good; 45 per cent adequate; 45 per cent poor
Fairness of by-laws and regulations -- 16 per cent good; 51 per cent adequate; 33 per cent poor
Control of government wage levels -- 5 per cent good; 22 per cent adequate; 73 per cent poor
Value-for-money of public services -- 15 per cent good; 29 per cent adequate; 56 per cent poor
Overall awareness of small business sector -- 19 per cent good; 19 per cent adequate; 62 per cent poor |
