Community Safety

Community Safety is a priority to Maurice BRENNER and must be a priority for the Office of the Mayor. Whether its, vandalism, safety on our Streets or various forms of violence. Responding that statistics have decreased does not address the concerns of the Community

As Mayor, Maurice BRENNER, will want to hear your stories, will want to talk about how you feel, and will want to talk about solutions not excuses.

CONSULTING AND ENGAGING

Only by consulting and engaging the Community and our partners will issues of Community Safety be addressed.

In 2004, incidents of violence across the GTA were a concern. Maurice BRENNER worked with the Community, consulted and engaged them to identify what are the fears, what are the causes and what are the solutions. The Community formed Communities Against Violence Everywhere C.A.V.E.

November 2005, Maurice held a forum bringing together over 130 residents providing an opportunity to learn about anti-violence and anti-crime initiatives from a panel representing Youth, Diversity, Durham Regional Police and the Pickering business and examined what are the causes of Crime in our Community

In 2007, with no support from the Office of the Mayor, the Committees were disbanded with no discussion at the Community level.

Today, issues of Community Safety remain a community priority that must be addressed.

Solving the challenges of Community Safety will require leadership and the ability to build partnerships at every level.

ADDRESSING VANDALISM IN OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH COMMUNITY SAFETY AUDITS

Working with DRPS and other Community Partners,  Maurice BRENNER wants to put a plan in place that will ensure every Community in the City has a Safety Audit carried out once every 2 Years.  Safety Audits will identify what needs to be addressed and how.  Audits involve the Community who take part in a walkabout.

Outcomes from the audits and follow-up actions would be posted on the City Web Site to ensure greater accountability.

ADDRESSING SAFETY ON  OUR STREETS “WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP AND CREATIVE SOLUTIONS

Issues of Road Safety, is important to the Community. While policies, procedures, and speed enforcement are seen as major deterrents, there are just not enough resources to meet the growing needs.

Maurice BRENNER as Mayor of Pickering will work with the community to identify and implement “best practices” that can address this growing concern.
