Only by consulting and engaging the Community and our partners will issues of Community Safety be addressed.
In 2004, incidents of violence across the GTA were a concern. Maurice BRENNER worked with the Community, consulted and engaged them to identify what are the fears, what are the causes and what are the solutions. The Community formed Communities Against Violence Everywhere C.A.V.E.
November 2005, Maurice held a forum bringing together over 130 residents providing an opportunity to learn about anti-violence and anti-crime initiatives from a panel representing Youth, Diversity, Durham Regional Police and the Pickering business and examined what are the causes of Crime in our Community
In 2007, with no support from the Office of the Mayor, the Committees were disbanded with no discussion at the Community level.
Today, issues of Community Safety remain a community priority that must be addressed.
Solving the challenges of Community Safety will require leadership and the ability to build partnerships at every level.
